Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip are top of the range in a small body

ASUS today announced the new line Zenfone 8, unveiling two new flagship devices 8 and 8 Flip. While the Flip is the successor to the Zenfone 7 which features the same triple camera setup with its distinct flip mechanism, the Zenfone 8 offers a more traditional form factor with a camera in the front. This eliminates the encumbrance of the flipping camera that distinguished the previous model and the current one, Flip. But let's see all the features of the two devices.

ASUS Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip are two truly spectacular smartphones: the first in particular is an iPhone dressed in Android. A bomb!

Both devices feature high-end specs and are in fact powered byQualcomm's Snapdragon 888 SoC, the chip maker's flagship product. The main differences between the devices, however, lie in the size and configuration of the camera. The Zenfone 8 features a display by 5.9 " with a resolution of 2400 x 1080. The panel is of type AMOLED with update frequency 120Hz. This is a Samsung certified panel too HDR 10 +. This offers a maximum brightness of up to 1.100 nits. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Foods. We also find one LPDDR5 RAM up to 16GB and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage space.

As for the specifics of the camera, the device sports a dual-optical setup on the back that houses a sensor Sony IMX686 to 64 megapixel. The secondary camera is a 12 megapixel which can also act as a macro lens. The device does not have a dedicated telephoto lens for a zoom. At the front, a single hole accommodates a 12 megapixel which also features dual PDAF autofocus.

ASUS Zenfone 8 packs one battery from 4.000 mAh which can be recharged using a 30w. Connectivity options include support 5G and Wi-Fi 6 / 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. The device also boasts stereo speakers and features a audio jack from 3.5 mm. Another noteworthy specification is that of IP68 water and dust resistance.

As mentioned above, the Zenfone 8 Flip is a successor to the Zenfone 7, bringing with it the characteristic triple camera array in the motorized housing that opens from the back of the device. The company claims to have improved the engine to make it more efficient than 50%. The device can be equipped with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 memory at high speed. Contains a large battery from 5.000 mAh that are noticeable thanks to the larger size of the device.

Zenfone 8 Flip shapes a wide display by 6.67”With an update frequency of 90 Hz. This too is a unity AMOLED Samsung covering 110% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Both devices are equipped with a unit with an average Delta E of less than 1. However, the8 Flip is satisfied with a Gorilla Glass 6 and not a Vitus.

As for the camera lenses, the main and ultra-wide angle are identical to the Zenfone 8. The third sensor is a telephoto lens from 8 megapixel with 3X optical zoom. The company has included features such as free-angle shooting and quick-angle shooting which allows users to manually vary the flipping mechanism angle when using the camera for greater flexibility.

While the Zenfone 8 Flip offers the same connectivity options as that of the Zenfone 8, the device understandably loses water and dust resistance. Furthermore omits the 3.5 mm audio jack. What the 8 Flip offers, however, is support for a microSD card, something that is absent on the smaller device. Both devices come with Android 11 as standard.

The Zenfone 8 starts from 599 € for the variant with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The Zenfone 8 Flip instead gives 799 € for the variant with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
