With the smartphone it is possible to determine the level of blood clotting

Using one smartphone, nowadays, you can do a lot of things. It is now possible detect coronavirus, but also determine the degree of blood oxygenation (SPO2). There are also devices on the market that, through the camera, can do a quick ECG. But apparently, the University of Washington found also that it is possible to determine the blood clotting level always using the smartphone camera. Let's see how.

Blood clotting can be seen with the smartphone and the system is also poco costly. We explain how this can be done

A new study by researchers fromUniversity of Washington will help smartphone users to check levels of blood clotting. This laboratory test can be expensive precisely because it requires special machinery, but through two hardware components of the device, we can no longer pay for this type of analysis.

As we said, only two components of the smartphone are needed: a vibration motor and camera. Things we find by default. In addition to this, you will need a small arm to attach near the camera at the end of which there is a tray. The user adds a drop of their own blood into this container as well as one special chemical compound containing a small copper particle that initiates the blood clotting process.

The vibration motor of the smartphone shakes the tray and the camera follows the movement of the copper particle, which it gradually slows and stops as the clot forms. The application on the device collects two timestamps. The first is when the user injects blood and the second is when the particle stops moving. The test was performed on three different types of blood samples. They all showed a result comparable with the laboratory.

Scholars say that this technology will be particularly useful for regions where the network of clinics and medical laboratories is poco developed, as most modern smartphones are equipped with a vibration motor and a camera that is required for testing.
