Italy is courting Intel: the chip crisis is numbered

La chip crisis it is now a plague that is having repercussions not only in the telephony sector, but also in the automotive sector. Indeed, it started from this market. There blame for the crisis, according to TSMC, it is not so much to be attributed to the users (as we often think) but to the companies which they continue to require wafer to stock up. L'Italy, for its part, it seems that it is moving and that it is making the thread to Intel. This at least as reported by Reuters.

Italy, according to Reuters, is courting Intel to build a multi-billion dollar plant to produce its own chips. Will it really be like this?

Italy is preparing an offer to try to convince Intel to invest billions of euros in an advanced chip manufacturing facility. The plants would be part of an initiative by the US group to build state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities in Europe to avoid future supply shortages. Shortcomings that currently stand paralyzing the automotive industry in particularBut not only.

According to initial estimates, the deal would be worth more than 4 billion. One of the Reuters sources even claims that the deal could end for the sum of 8 billion. Italy, according to the sources, would be ready to finance part of the investment for the overall chips with public money and to offer favorable terms to Intel, including on labor and energy costs.

The factory would create more than 1.000 jobs direct to Italy. According to (anonymous) statements, discussions with Intel are at an advanced stage. There is no agreement yet, but if the government works hard on this it has a good chance of bringing the plant to Italy for alleviate the chip crisis.

Potential sites include the area Mirafiori of Turin, the Italian headquarters of the car manufacturer Stellantis and Catania in Sicily, where the Italian-French chip manufacturer already operates STMicroelectronics. Clearly Intel still did not comment the story.
