Afraid of being spied on? Here's how to set up a quick button to disable your smartphone's sensors

Modern smartphones are undoubtedly a concentrate of technology, integrating many sensors inside them that improve the various supporting features. Just think of the accelerometer, gyroscope and on some specimens even a thermometer. But many always live the fear of being spied on, of being the center of attention of some attacker, so much so that they are the first to download the Android security patches on their terminal, indeed, they base the purchase of a smartphone on this. factor, or rather on the attention and speed that the company reserves in terms of firmware security.

Therefore, net of the advantages offered by sensors, such as being able to accurately know our position and the steps we have taken during the day, someone may feel the need to deactivate all these sensors and related information, which are often free. access to the many applications installed on our smartphone, which could then be used to spy on us for commercial purposes.

Well, great news if you own an Android 10 smartphone, as one of the many features integrated into the green robot's OS allows you to grant one-off permissions to apps that can access sensors. However, the function is not easy to find and we will explain how to do it.

Afraid of being spied on? Here's how to set up a quick button to disable your smartphone's sensors

Before explaining the steps to follow to disable all the sensors of the smartphone, we point out that this feature is only available with the Android 10 and 11 operating system, so older versions will not be able to "benefit" from this guide.

The steps that we are going to list may differ in some menu items based on the system interface adopted, such as MIUI, EMUI, OneUI etc .. Having said that we just have to activate the Developer Options, by going to the Settings of our smartphone and view the System Info. From the new window that opens we should tap repeatedly (usually 7 times) on the MIUI version in our example with Xiaomi smartphone or on the Build Number. A pop up message should now appear informing us that Developer Options have been activated.

If you have followed the previous steps, you must go back to the Settings menu and scroll to the Additional Settings item, or to the System and Updates menu for interfaces other than MIUI. From here you can find the new Developer Options menu.

Enter the menu and scroll until you find the word DEVELOPER BOXES FOR QUICK SETTINGS and click on it. You will see a new window appear with several options, including one with SENSORS DISABLED which you will check. Once this is done, from the quick toggles of your Android smartphone you will find the new button to deactivate all sensors with a simple click.

A real child's play right? Well, now you can be calm and not have the fear of being spied, although personally I think that if you have this fear, perhaps you should think about abandoning the concept of smartphones and turning to old cell phones. You will not feel alone because so many have made this choice.

It would be interesting to understand why the voice does not appear on certain devices. Let's see if the good Emanuele has an explanation.

it would be interesting to know if it really deactivates everything, because without any active sensor the tel risks turning into a payphone.
it would be really cool to optionally disable individual sensors
