La eSIM, although still not very widespread, it could lead to the resolution of the physical problem on the device. By removing the trolley where the classic SIMs are housed, smartphone manufacturers can count on more space to have, for example, a bigger battery. But Google wants to go further with a patent disclosed from the well-known ex-XDA Mishaal Rahman. In fact, Google has been preparing (for two years now) to bring two numbers to a single eSIM.
According to Google, it will be possible to register two phone numbers in the eSIM “module”. How to find more space in your smartphone by keeping two numbers
According to the source, using the function Multiple Enabled Profiles (MEP), Google wants to allow you to assign two numbers to a single eSIM. Clearly, the transition from one to the other is foreseen. Google is basing the new functionality starting from a patent filed in 2020 which describes the division of the existing SIM card interface into two digital connections. There have been reports in the past where Google has tested one such a solution on Google Pixel engineering hardware.

Such a solution could allow smartphone makers to get rid of the usual physical slots completely for SIM cards. At least in some markets where eSIM has been working for a long time. The rejection of classic SIM cards, among other things, will allow smartphone manufacturers to use the freed up internal space for other needs. For example, to increase the capacity of the batteries as we said before or to add chips that we do not yet have knowledge of.
The search giant can integrate the MEP function directly into Android, that is any company can implement it. In fact, this novelty was discovered within the code of Android 13, the new operating system that developers and beta testers are already testing.
