Google seeks not only to impose sanctions on Russia, but also to help residents of Ukraine. The company updated its post on aid to Ukraine and announced that i Android app owners will receive notifications about air strikes. Google stated:
We pay special attention to the safety and security of our users in Ukraine and the surrounding region to help them access and share important information. At the request and with the assistance of the Ukrainian government, we have started the deployment of an early warning system for air strikes on Android smartphones in Ukraine. This work is in addition to the anti-aircraft alert systems in the country and is based exclusively on the alerts already transmitted by the Ukrainian government.

In essence, Google, through Android devices, does nothing but echo the Ukrainian government, ensuring that notifications and news arrives in a faster and more widespread way. The new feature will arrive on smartphones along with the Google Play services update, version 22.06.15. The approximate location of the devices will be used to warn of possible air attacks. The company will not use location data to identify and track users.
