How to disable all sensors on Android smartphones

Privacy, we are always there: Android is safe or not? We know that many applications, both system and non-system, have access to different features on smartphones. Among these, some apps can access sensors such as the photo or even the microphone. There are several ways to prevent this from happening: one of the best known is to activate the flight mode. In airplane mode, devices can still access some sensors to enable specific features, such as rotating the screen and taking photos. There is another way, however, even more profound.

Here's how to disable all the sensors present and active on an Android smartphone. No root needed, no unlocked bootloader. It's easy!

This is not a "secret" mode, on the contrary, it is Android itself that allows us to do so. Basically there is a function that allows you to disable all sensors present in our smartphone. This has existed since Android 10 although it is possible that some OEMs have removed it to avoid problems. But without getting lost in small talk, let's see how to activate it and what it entails.

Step 1: Enable Developer Options

First you need to have access to developer optionsof our Android smartphone. To do this, just follow the following guide:

  • open the Settings smartphone (gear icon) and go to device information
  • once done we will have to tap on Build number until we become full-fledged developers
  • let's go upstairs Settings and look for the Developer options through the menu System

Step 2: look for the option we need, which is "Developer panes for quick settings"

Now we will have to look for the called option Developer panes for quick settings, but since it is a very well hidden option (the menu is quite large), let's first look for it with the magnifying glass.

Step 3: activate the toggle

By selecting the above option, we will be faced with a series of other options with attached switches to activate them. In reality the switches enable the toggles (going down with the curtain, we will find different squares or rounds like Flight mode, Silent, etc, those are the toggles). Let's now activate the option Sensors deactivated.

Lowering the blind now we will find a toggle with the same name option. By pressing on it, all the sensors of our Android smartphone will be deactivated (if updated to Android 10 or higher).

Warning!

It is obvious that by deactivating all sensors, we will gain in privacy, but we will not be able to use them. In fact, if we try to open the camera with this option activated, it will inevitably crash. In reality it is not an actual crash but only one forced closure as the photographic sensor (such as the brightness one, the microphone and all the others) is disabled.

Recall that this feature helps developers to test the functionality of their app in situations where such sensors are not available and gives users a way to control the sensors in their device. It is therefore not recommended in any way for "common" users. The final goal, therefore, is not just to see if the smartphone is safe or not, but to do a test of the 9 if the sensors work properly.

We recommend the use of this Android feature only to developer users who have a good understanding of the operating system. Should an unprepared user be faced with problems of a different nature, following this operation, the TechToday.it team is relieved of any responsibility. We are not responsible in any way for damage to the smartphone as a result of modding operations or dedicated to developers.
