Officer: Magisk will change, but his fate is not sealed

Magisk is one of the supports (perhaps the only one) that allow you to root and then change the basics of the Android operating system. It is a tool that enthusiasts modders use to find out what's new in the system for change, through forms, what he likes best. The founder, however, John Wu, was formally hired by Google and as announced, his behavior will change. The platform will obviously change with him. Let's try to understand how and why.

Magisk will undergo changes. The founder said this yesterday, blaming his hiring at Google. What will happen?

John Wu, lead developer of the popular Magisk app, has become a member of Google's Android platform security team. Ironically, the tool he created is designed to bypass mobile operating system security for obtain the rights to superuser on smartphones. The creator of Magisk released the popular utility five years ago. John Wu trained for four months at Apple and was hired for a full-time job in machine translation.

In his opinion, the fact that you now work at Google it does not mean the death of a useful tool. Wu answered some user questions and shared information about the American company's plans regarding his idea.

Magisk will continue its development, but Google will carefully study the program's possibilities, which are awaiting several changes. The largest of these will be the MagiskHide module rejection. With its help, users can hide the presence of root access to applications that stop working after making changes to the system, for example, banking customers. Only a certain part of the module infrastructure will remain in the updated utility.

The developer notes that in its current state, the project looks like a "conflict of interest”Since it has full access to almost all of the Android source code. Another change will be the refusal of the official Magisk repository for module download. However, the app will still allow manual installation of modules via .zip files and development will continue on GitHub.

In newer versions of the utility, users will also be able to assign a list of processes where Magisk prohibits further changes and discards all changes made. At the same time, John Wu considers his direct participation in the subsequent development of Magisk inappropriate: according to him, it development of the utility will now be led by the open source developer community.
