MediaTek, the first 6 nm mid-range SoC coming soon: name and specifications

MediaTek prepares to launch the next generation of “Helio G” family processors with a new manufacturing process a 6 nanometers. The information is brought this Thursday from reliable sources of GSMArena, which also state the possible specifications of the successor to Helio G96. In fact, according to the data that emerged and disclosed, this processor should be slightly more powerful than the current top of the mid-range of the Taiwanese company. Let's see the details.

MediaTek is preparing its first 6nm smartphone processor. It will be launched in the last months of the year: here is the name and key specifications

Currently, MediaTek's most powerful chipset in the mid-range is based on the 12-nanometer manufacturing process, which is not very efficient nowadays. The next generation, whose trade name has not yet been revealed, would feature 6 nanometer transistors that they would guarantee greater performance and lower energy consumption.

The source is able to reveal that platform's basic settings and apparently there will be no major changes compared to the Helio G96, even if something will necessarily change. Let's talk about an octa-core chipset with two ARM Cortex-A76 cores e six core ARM Cortex-A55, all operating at frequencies up to 2.0 GHz. Unfortunately there will be no 5G modem.

The GPU will always be there Mali-G57 MC2. Thus, the maximum screen resolution of smartphones and tablets supported by the MediaTek chip in question will be Full HD + up to frequencies of 120 Hz. The image signal processing also remains unchanged: guaranteed support for cameras up to 108 megapixel and video recordings up to 2K at 30 fps.

The new generation of the MediaTek Helio G series is expected to be released in the middle of third quarter of 2022. According to the source, the first manufacturer to use the alleged chipset in a smartphone will be Doogee, whose latest release is V20 5G.
