Motorola patents a new design for foldables: the larger screen stays on the outside

As one of the first manufacturers to launch a foldable screen, it's kind of weird that we haven't heard a lot of news from Motorola after a year of releasing the new Razr. Well, today a Motorola patent for a foldable smartphone has been approved by WIPO, so it looks like Motorola is back to work in this category.

Motorola patents a new design for foldables: the larger screen stays on the outside

From the point of view of the patent content, the phone adopts a rare backward folding design and on the top of the back shell of the device there is a protruding camera module to protect the screen.

Compared to the current common folding mechanism that folds inward to protect the screen from friction with the outside world, Motorola's new patent looks pretty bold, because the existence of the top camera module obviously has to redesign the hinge mechanism.

Recall that on the previous Motorola Razr, we saw a mobile screen folding mechanism. When the phone is folded, the screen will extend into the bottom compartment known as the “chin”. The result is that the fold is almost invisible, but the new patent seems to abandon this great design of its predecessor.

We just have to wait to understand if this device will really be produced or if it will remain only a sketch.
