OnePlus Watch confirmed, but no rush on folding

We have been talking for a long time about the projects of OnePlus about creating his first SmartWatch. Although the design began several years ago, it has not been seen in the slightest to this day. However, it seems that the CEO of the company Pete Lau has confirmed that the device will arrive next year. 2021 will therefore not only be the year of leaflets, but also of the giant's smartwatch. And speaking of leaflets: what are the company's plans? We all expect a foldable, but sadly Pete Lau said it's not in the plan. And maybe it's better this way.

No folding smartphone in OnePlus' thoughts, but at least OnePlus Watch has been confirmed for 2021

According to what revealed by Input Mag, which has recently OnePlus CEO Pete Lau interviewed, the launch of the company's first smartwatch would be for 2021. Oneplus watch, this is the possible name even if we expect something less trivial. The company has been working on it since 2015 and what we know so far is just that will adopt a circular dial. But why this delay?

It is to blame the poor state of development of WearOS in this sense. Paradoxically Apple had a lot more to offer during that time and probably the Chinese company has decided not to focus too much on the smartwatch project. In fact, this reasoning fits. The brand's devices are all (up to now) top of the range. Burrs are not allowed.

WearOS certainly has room for improvement. What we are trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the WearOS ecosystem, Android TV and Android smartphones. This is the direction we are trying to go but we cannot share more with you than this at the moment.

Foldable smartphones? Am I in port?

The company's CEO has also spoken out on the matter folding smartphones, stating that the software experience is not yet mature to take full advantage of the foldable form factor. One of the biggest problems we see today, he says, is that the applications need to expand to a larger screen relatively quickly.

However, Pete Lau has neither confirmed nor denied the brand's intention to create one for the future. Surely there is still a lot of work to do and above all we need to see if it will actually be successful.
