Oppo looks to 6G when 5G is still not fully implemented: here are its plans

Oppo is known for its innovations in the smartphone and IoT segment. It is now one of the first telecom companies to present their plans for the 6G network of the future. It seems strange to hear 6G, when the worldwide coverage of 5G is not complete. Of course, there are countries ahead of the others in this sense, such as China (where the company was born), but the point is another: proceeding with the evolution is fundamental and we can not stop. The Chinese company has published the so-called "6G White Paper“, Or rather a sort of compendium that exposes his plans.

The future is 6G: we would never have said it, but Oppo already knows it well enough to publish its first “White Paper” about it. Here are the details

Henry Tang, Head of 5G Research at Oppo, says:

Looking forward to 2035, Oppo predicts that the number of smart devices around the world will far exceed the population. Therefore, as a next-generation communication technology, 6G should be able to meet not only people's needs, but all forms of intelligence and their various interactions. With this goal in mind, we carried out the first technical investigations and system design

Il 6G will completely change the foundations of AI as we know it today. Any problems with the AI, for example with developing in data silos or regarding the data protection, are resolved. As data protection has become a very important topic around the world in recent years, this aspect is also taken into consideration. How?

In this image, we understand how Oppo wants to segment on different simensions: AI Control Plane, AI User Plane, Ai Function Plane

In his whitepaper, Oppo suggests to divide the current AI resources into different "domains". This should make it easier to get optimal results from AI models in the future. As smart devices hardly offer enough storage space for complex AI resources, a network 6G offers more than the necessary bandwidth.

Current networks can be divided into two dimensions: the control plan (CP) and user plan (UP). The UP is primarily responsible for the part of the network performance that users can directly perceive, such as speed and latency. The CP, on the other hand, is closely related to the network configuration, ensuring normal network operations in different motion patterns and location ranges of the network nodes. If we compare the UP to vehicles that move quickly in urban traffic, then the CP is road traffic control.

The company's 6G white paper takes it one step further introducing AI Function Plane (FP) as a new dimension in 6G networks, which runs perpendicular to traditional CP and UP planes to form an Intelligent Cube (AI-Cube). This unique, AI-powered architecture will enhance the 6G network on two levels: high-level networking capabilities and networking capabilities to enable 6G networks to self-optimize, dynamically administer and intelligently distribute resources.
