Today, the Chinese brand Oppo has presented the new A91, a mid-ranger with very curious hardware and a not too cheap price. The smartphone in fact adopts a non-modern CPU even if still performing, let's talk about the MediaTek Helio P70, while costing over 250 euros (at the current exchange rate). But how does this chipset coupled with Oppo's software behave? Well, as you may have already understood from the title, now we are going to find out thanks to Geekbench.
Oppo A91 on GeekBench, the score is average
In fact, the device just announced appeared on the famous smartphone benchmark platform and the results are the line with the belonging range: average. The MediaTek chip scores only 1479 points in single core mode and 5733 points in multi core mode. A score similar to that of other mid-range processors produced by Qualcomm, such as the Snapdragon 665.
So the question arises, why go with MediaTek when there is the Qualcomm alternative that theoretically consumes even less energy with its 11nm production process instead of the 12nm of the Helio P70?
Furthermore, the Geekbench benchmark is mainly based on computing power. If instead we go to look for the scores of the two chips from the graphic point of view, as in the AnTuTu benchmarks, we find that the Helio P70 with its Mali-G72 is less performing than the Snapdragon 665 with the Adreno 610.
In any case, we don't want to turn it into a war between MediaTek and Qualcomm. In the end the processor is only one of the components on a smartphone and Oppo seems to have focused on other features such as super fast charging to recharge the 4000mAh battery by 50% in just 30 minutes, as well as a top photographic sector of range with four sensors: the main 48MP, secondary 8MP, 2MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor. While in front we find a 16MP camera for selfies.
