Oppo Reno Flip 5G is the foldable one you don't expect

The era of folding it is getting closer and closer but it must be said: before seeing them on the market as it should be, water must pass under the bridge. As far as we know, no brand is holding back. The challenge to who will build the best folding smartphone has long been open and all the major brands have made their first move. Samsung has been very busy in this regard but Oppo is no exception. In the last patent a prototype of Oppo Reno (in color thanks to the team of LetsGoDigital) with a somewhat ingenious hinge which could solve the major problem of this kind of devices. It is a so-called smartphone "clamshell"That is shell-shaped, but also equipped with 5G connectivity. Let's see the details.

Oppo Reno Flip 5G: this is the name that LetsGoDigital gave to the folding smartphone prototype of the brand. From his also the 5G technology

The brand has from poco presented the series Oppo Reno 4 which is made up of 3 variants: one version Z, a version Standard and Pro. But with this leaflet the company wants to make a considerable leap forward. It is a smartphone that folds inwards. Now, we know what the dangers are for a device of this type: the fold outwards causes the display to be subjected to strong stress as, most of the time, it would be closed in on itself.

It is a rotating hinge with several gears inside it. A pair of cover plates are rotatably coupled to the support plate and allow the housing to slide out of the cover plates themselves. In this way, the difference in length between the screen and the housing can be compensated for when opening. It's complicated in words, of course, but seeing the image on the left you have a clear idea: when closed there is one space between hinge and screen while when open this space is filled as the panel slides backwards.

front and rear camera render

As for the cameras, we have a single punch hole on the front and a rear compartment on the Meizu 17. The latter is horizontal in the upper part of the upper body. It is surprising that no technology was used for the hidden and invisible camera under the display.

Clearly this is a patent it is not known if and when the brand will launch the product. But among the patents presented it must be said that this is the best.
