Smartphone: the market falls in the last quarter, here are the data and estimates

For some companies such as Xiaomi shipments have soared so that the brand reaches the top (for a month or two). However, if we look at the data provided by IDC, the numbers referring to the last quarter they are not exactly positive. Smartphone manufacturing and shipments have declined for all major companies. The reasons are there for all to see: increased production costs because of chip crisis and disruption of the logistics chain.

The third quarter of 2021 did not go well for the smartphone market. Major OEMs decrease total production and shipments

The specialists of the analysis company IDC have prepared a report on the smartphone market, including data from the last quarter. According to their calculations, 331.2 million units of smartphones were shipped during the reporting period, or the 6.7% less compared to the third quarter of 2020. The actual decline was even stronger than IDC's predicted 2.9% decline

Analysts attribute the reduction in supplies to a shortage of components and the disruption to the usual production and logistics work. Samsung remains the market leader for smartphones. However, the South Korean manufacturer cut shipments from 80,4 to 69,0 million devices for the year, or 14,2%. As a result, its share decreased from 22,7% to 20,8%.
