The production of smartphones goes in reverse with respect to sales: here are the data

The chip crisis is at the root of it all, but there are also other reasons why smartphones are being produced in smaller quantities. Poco ago we saw the numbers related to smartphone sales during the last period: well, the production trend is completely different. Companies are struggling and not poco. Let's go and see all the data of the TrendForce search.

Compared to smartphone sales, production is not doing so well: companies, due to covid and crisis, really produce much less!

Recent outbreaks of COVID-19 in India, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries have had a negative impact on the global smartphone market in terms of production e question. This is the conclusion reached by the specialists of the analysis company TrendForce, which processed the data for the second quarter.

According to their calculations, global smartphone production in the second quarter of this year decreased by 11% compared to the previous quarter and amounted to 307 million units. A total of 652 millions of devices, nearly 18% more than in the first half of 2020, when the pandemic was in its infancy.

Most of the smartphones in the second quarter (58.5 million units) were released from Samsung. However, this figure is 23.5% lower than in the first quarter. With India and Vietnam accounting for the majority of Samsung smartphone production capacity, the COVID-19 outbreaks in both countries in the second quarter had a significant impact on production.

The smartphone production of Oppo it dropped 6.6% to 49.5 million units, including the volumes of the realme and OnePlus sub-brands. Smartphones Xiaomi released in the second quarter of 49.5 million units, down 2% from the previous quarter. The source clarifies that the production volume of Xiaomi includes devices from secondary brands:Redmi, POCO and Black Shark. On an annual basis, Oppo has increased production by 80%, Xiaomi by almost 70%.

As for the global smartphone production for the entire year 2021, TrendForce analysts have revised previous forecasts downwards. Previously they expected an 8.5% increase from 2020 to 1.36 billion pieces, now they expect a 7.3% increase to 1.35 billion pieces.
