Snapdragon 8 Gen1 official: the details of the "first of its kind"

Qualcomm unveiled its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor, the company's most powerful mobile solution. In addition to the improved performance, the new SoC integrates a modem 5G with support for record-breaking connection speeds, improved capabilities for working with mobile cameras, and other useful features. First Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is manufactured using a lithographic process at 4 nm based on the ARM microarchitecture v9. It includes one super-core Cortex-X2 (3.0 GHz), three efficient Cortex-A710s (2.5 GHz) and four energy efficient Cortex-A510s (1.8 GHz).

Compared to the Snapdragon 888, the new SoC, according to Qualcomm has increased computing power by 20% andenergy efficiency increased by 30%. In addition, the seller announced a 30% increase in graphics performance integrated by Adreno reducing energy consumption by 25%. Another feature of the SoC is the Snapdragon X65 5G 5G modem with a claimed download speed of up to 10Gbps.

The mobile platform is also compatible with wireless standards 6 WiFi e Wi-Fi 6E (2.4 GHz + 6 GHz, up to 3.6 Gbps). The supported modules are Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and USB 3.1, as well as Bluetooth LE Audio and GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and NavIC navigation systems.

The proprietary image processor (ISP) will allow Snapdragon 8 Gen1-based smartphones to shoot up to 240 shots at 12 megapixels per second, as well as simultaneously recording 8K video with HDR and taking 64 megapixel photos. The chip supports 200 megapixel image sensors or three 36-megapixel cameras. For the best HDR performance, you can combine one shot from 30 images.

Qualcomm also highlighted improvements in the AI algorithms to work with the camera. The new coprocessor Seventh Generation Hexagonit is four times faster than its predecessor and up to 1.7 times more energy efficient, according to company representatives.

Smartphone manufacturers can count on support from 4K 60Hz display o QHD + screens with update rates up to 144Hz for the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Qualcomm also announced support for LPDDR5-3200 RAM, compatibility with ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, and native support for fast charging technology. Quick Charge 5.

The first smartphones based on the latest chip will be presented by the end of 2021.
