Snapdragon 875, everything we know so far

There are numerous leaks and almost official information about the new top-of-the-range Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 875. Of him you know everything and nothing since in reality there is no official news. We only have information which, although detailed, may not correspond to the truth. So let's go to do some order and let's see what could expect in the next top-of-the-range smartphones in early 2021.

All you need to know about Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 before official launch: specs and features

As we know, at the end of the year during the Qualcomm Tech Summit the US company will present the next processor that will be equipped on new generation flagship. But what will lead to a performance increase over the previous processor? First of all the architecture of Snapdragon 875, which will allow the SoC itself to travel to higher speed. Let's see in detail what we are talking about.

  • integrated 5G modem: the first novelty lies in this, 5G connectivity. According to information leaked from China, the processor should have an integrated modem Qualcomm X60. This was presented at the beginning of the year and has the particularity of supporting sub-6 GHz and mmWave waves. This basically means two things: the integration of the modem in the CPU guarantees a higher clock frequency and therefore a higher calculation speed; high frequency to have less connection problems in crowded environments;
  • process at 5nm: as many will know, the smaller the lithographic process, the more autonomy (money) increases. Compared to this year's 6nm, the next generation processor will be able to count on agreater autonomy in terms of energy savings. This means that the further we go, the more smartphones could afford less capacious batteries;
  • architecture: we talk about 8 cores like the previous one but with different names and frequencies. The main core will be a Cortex-X1 at 2.84 GHz, Followed by three Cortex-A78 at 2.42 GHz e four Cortex-A55 at 1.8 GHz;
  • GPU: as usual, an increase in power also corresponds to an increase in graphics performance. These will obviously be entrusted to Adreno 660, heir to the 650. Compared to the latter, the cache and bandwidth will be increased ensuring the same performance but with lower power consumption;
  • Costs: we have heard of cooked and raw. The most plausible idea is this: the processor it will cost about 50% more compared to its predecessor, with a consequent increase in the prices of smartphones.

Let's talk about a Snapdragon 875 which on paper could also be more powerful than an iPhone 14 Bionic A12. It's all to be seen but let's expect higher costs than flagships in 2021. Which brands will use the processor? Obviously the first will be Xiaomi e Oppo, Followed by Realme, OnePlus and Redmi.
