Before we look at the name changes in detail, let's see what else Ice Universe has to tell us. According to the insider, the graphics power of Snapdragon 898 (for now this is the name) will be considerably higher than previously thought. The graphics accelerator Adreno 730 as part of the new SoC it will provide an even greater leap in performance than in the case of the Adreno 660. This, incidentally, was on average 35% faster than its predecessor.
It is also reported that Qualcomm's engineers have succeeded in improve thermal stability of the new GPU. So the problem of overheating we mentioned days ago may not exist. Comparing to other SoCs, the decrease in clock speed during throttling for the Samsung Exynos 2200 is estimated at 25%, for the Apple A15 Bionic at 35% and for the new Snapdragon 898 only by 20%.
According to unconfirmed reports, in GFXBench, the new SoC achieves 158.4 fps in the Manhattan 3.1 test, as well as 112.7 / 43.1 fps in Aztek Ruin (normal and high graphics settings, respectively).
Having said that, apparently the company has decided to change name to Snapdragon 898. It will be called Snapdragon 8 Gen1. A somewhat strange name but one that makes it clear how the US giant wants to change its SoC's guise.
