The software, dubbed TangleBot, attacks users in the United States and Canada according to initial reports. But how does it work? All these "messages" are accompanied by a link to a third party site.
When you click on it, a message appears on the screen reminding you of the need to update Flash Player. We remind you that Flash Player support was officially discontinued by Adobe itself in December of last year, but if the user, without knowing it, agrees to download the "update", it is installed a virus on his Android smartphone.
A smartphone infected with TangleBot can transmit data received from a microphone, camera and internal memory to third-party servers. Hackers have access to the history of websites visited, messages, audio and video materials, as well as access to any content stored in memory.
Apart from this, it opens the malware and accesses the device owner's location using the obtained information using the GPS module. If desired, virus writers can remotely block the device or, conversely, make calls from it.
